Steve Redford was born in 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in the suburbs thereof, where he played a lot of football and ran track. He majored in English at Furman University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, then went on to get graduate degrees in English/Creative Writing from the University of Georgia, and Advanced Japanese Studies from the University of Sheffield. In 1992, he won first prize in the Agnes Scott Short Story Writing Contest, judged by then Poet Laureate, Rita Dove, and in 1995, first prize in the Snake Nation Press contest.  He first taught in Japan in 1988, and is currently a Professor of American literature at Shizuoka University. His first novel, Along the Same Street, was published in 2013, and his second, When a Sissy Climbs a Mountain in May, is due out June, 2019. He is an avid hiker, enjoys taking nature photographs, and sometimes plays the ukulele. His view of the world is absolutely non-dualistic.
