I&#8217;d been thinking about staining this ceiling for a <em>looooong <\/em>time. Since way before there were even any\u00a0house plans\u00a0for a cedar ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Two days ago, though, there was some confusion. The <em>kakishibu<\/em> (persimmon extract) had come from Kyoto with instructions to cut in half with water. I didn&#8217;t know it needed to be cut&#8212;and that got me worrying. Once you stain the wood, you can&#8217;t really un-stain it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151009_kakishibu_3_600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2503 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151009_kakishibu_3_600.jpg\" alt=\"151009_kakishibu_3_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, though, I got started. I cut the extract in half, and began with the hallway. I hadn&#8217;t been putting it on for thirty seconds before I remembered how nice it looked.<\/p>\n<p>Managed to get a bit of the living room done, too, before I just couldn&#8217;t see well enough to continue. When I looked up at what I&#8217;d done, I couldn&#8217;t see any difference between it and what I hadn&#8217;t gotten to yet. Until I took a picture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151009_kakishibu_2_450.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2502 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151009_kakishibu_2_450.jpg\" alt=\"151009_kakishibu_2_450\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes\u00a0when I&#8217;m out hiking, I feel like I can get the camera to &#8220;exaggerate&#8221; a bit&#8212;but this time, with this shot, I felt like the camera was actually seeing what I couldn&#8217;t. Maybe it does that more than I thought.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_misty_kita_600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2500\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_misty_kita_600.jpg\" alt=\"151010_misty_kita_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rained that night and the next morning . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_kakishibu_1_600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2497\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_kakishibu_1_600.jpg\" alt=\"151010_kakishibu_1_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . but regardless, the high part of the ceiling waited. Would the ladder be tall enough?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_kakishibu_5_450.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2499 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/151010_kakishibu_5_450.jpg\" alt=\"151010_kakishibu_5_450\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, I managed part of the high part <em>without<\/em> a ladder.<\/p>\n<p>And the ladder <em>did<\/em> get me high enough when I needed it to. Just barely.<\/p>\n<p>No, Mom, I didn&#8217;t fall. And now I&#8217;m down and safe and sound on solid ground.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, I&#8217;m thinking the one coat will do it, but we&#8217;ll see how it looks in various light.
