But that&#8217;s what ended up enchanting us&#8212;me, anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3206 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_2_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_mountain_ajisai_2_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_2_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_2_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From what I see on the Web, all sorts of folks, at least those here in Shizuoka and around my home state of Georgia, are enjoying the hydrangeas. Rightfully so. They&#8217;re lovely. I&#8217;m enjoying them, too. Like these, below, which I spotted near the river at the back end of Senna, heading up toward Ryuso.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3199 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_ajisai_bush_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_ajisai_bush_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_ajisai_bush_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_ajisai_bush_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But I prefer the mountain hydrangea. The blossoms are not as big and global and they don&#8217;t grow as profusely as they do on the bushes dotting gardens all over town&#8212;but that&#8217;s sort of what I like.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3210 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_7_450.jpg\" alt=\"160604_mountain_ajisai_7_450\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_7_450.jpg 450w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_7_450-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Komorebi<\/em>. This is a Japanese word that I like a lot. It means, more or less, sunlight filtering down through tree leaves. I&#8217;ve never met a hiker who didn&#8217;t love <em>komorebi<\/em>.\u00a0At times, there&#8217;s nothing better for a hiker than to get out\u00a0of the\u00a0full shineshine and\u00a0into <em>komorebi<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3209 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_5_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_mountain_ajisai_5_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_5_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_5_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the world of <em>komorebi <\/em>is the world in which the mountain hydrangeas\u00a0\u00a0live. Their limbs bend and twist and reach for\u00a0the\u00a0sunshine, but in the end, they just don&#8217;t get as much sunshine as their relatives down in town. Maybe they wish they could get more. Maybe they don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3205\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_1_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_mountain_ajisai_1_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_1_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_mountain_ajisai_1_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Regardless, you can feel the effort they make. And you feel the pride <em>they<\/em> feel in what they&#8217;ve made of the limited sunshine available to them. You can see that beauty is not always bigger and brighter. And you see how beauty appreciates whatever light does shine upon it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3200 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_cedar_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_cedar_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_cedar_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_cedar_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The cedars are always there, up on Ryuso. At first, he seemed a little shy, and kept a couple of strides ahead of us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3203 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_kamoshika_2_600.jpg\" alt=\"160604_kamoshika_2_600\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_kamoshika_2_600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/persimmon-dreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/160604_kamoshika_2_600-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>But finally he turned back to us.
